Mountain Western provides third-party log scaling services to the timber industry rooted in our commitment to remain independent and unbiased. As a Not-for-Profit organization we were created to ensure that the buying and selling of the commodity of logs is done by a set standard of rules without influence from either side. Mountain Western provides this service at cost. Driven by the desire to hold ourselves to the highest of standards, we strive to provide the best services possible accurately and safely for our subscribers.

Our services are to help facilitate the buying and selling of logs by providing unbiased information.

Scaling Services

Mountain Western is a member and follows the rules and guidance of the Northwest Log Rules Group. These Scaling rules include Westside, Eastside, and Northwest Cubic. In addition, we are an approved Scaling Bureau for National Forest Service timber under the Forest Service rules for Eastside and Cubic. Mountain Western is also approved to scale all other State (ODF, DNR) and Federal (BLM) timber. We provide (but are not limited to) the following information:
Species, Length, Diameter, Gross Scale, Net Scale, Grades, Condition Codes, Decking, Sorting, Quality Codes, Defect Codes, Log Tags, Weights, Part Codes, Deck Inventory, Weight Scale, Sample Scale, Expansion, etc.

Check Scaling

In an effort to ensure Mountain Western is providing the most accurate scale possible, we have as our overarching goal to produce 1 check scale per month for every production log scaler working. This intense check scaling regimen creates a constant and continued learning/training atmosphere within our work force. Mountain Western also provides contract check scaling as a service for Manufacturers, Timber Owners, Consulting Firms, amongst others.

Our Customer Service Department strives to provide the most accurate information to our customers. Some of our services include:

4. Access to real-time web-based scale ticket information
